The application of titanium materials in the chemical industry. In chemical production, the corrosion of chemical equipment is a major problem. Due to corrosion, a large amount of steel (1797, 10.00, 0.56%) is wasted every year. In China, corrosion is also the main cause of equipment damage in the chemical industry. Therefore, the service life of many equipment is only 1-2 years, and that of ZUI is only 1-2 months.

Titanium materials have excellent performance in corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance and erosion resistance. Although the one-time investment of titanium equipment is high, its service life is several times and dozens of times that of carbon steel, stainless steel and cast iron equipment. Due to its low density, high strength, good corrosion resistance and other outstanding advantages, titanium has successfully solved the serious corrosion problem of equipment in chemical production and is favored, which has brought a leap to the anti-corrosion technology of chemical industry.

The chemical system is an industrial sector in China's civil industry where titanium was used early in ZUI, and the consumption of ZUI is large. In recent 10 years, the amount of titanium used in China's chemical industry is equivalent to the sum of titanium production in 2009 and 2010.

Application of Titanium in Chemical Industry

At present, the main application fields of titanium in the chemical industry are:

1. Chlor alkali industry

Titanium has been used in chemical industry for a long time, and its major users are chlor alkali industry. This includes the production of chlorine, chlorine oxides, pesticides, and drifting powder. In the production of chlorine, titanium equipment and pipelines account for almost a quarter of its total mass. For example, it is used for metal anode electrolyzer, ionic membrane electrolyzer and anode liquid pump, tubular wet chlorine cooler, chlorine wastewater dechlorination tower, chlorine gas cooling scrubber, refined brine preheater, vacuum dechlorination pump and valve, etc.

2. Soda industry

In the production of soda ash, titanium materials are mainly used in external cooler of crystallization, ammonia condenser at the top of distillation tower, ammonium chloride mother liquor heater, flat plate heat exchanger, umbrella plate heat exchanger, cooling pipe of carbonization tower, rotor impeller of carbon dioxide turbine compressor, alkali liquor pump, etc.

3. Vacuum salt industry

Titanium ammonia evaporator, titanium preheater, titanium precooler, titanium flange, titanium tube sheet, titanium pump shell and titanium elbow.

4. Petroleum chemical fiber

At present, some titanium equipment has been used by petrochemical fiber enterprises, such as polyester, nylon and vinylon, which are imported from abroad or designed and manufactured domestically. The application of titanium equipment has played a positive role in the development of chemical fiber production in China, especially in safe, stable and sustainable production, improving product quality, preventing premature corrosion failure of stainless steel, improving equipment service life, reducing shutdown and maintenance, and improving comprehensive economic benefits.

5. Fine chemical industry

The industrial raw material of propylene oxide plant is a strong corrosive medium. The two main raw materials used in PO production are liquid chlorine and propylene. These strong corrosive media lay the foundation for corrosion of equipment and pipelines in PO production plant. Under this process condition, carbon steel, Al, Cu, Ni, stainless steel and other metals can not resist corrosion. Only titanium is an ideal anti-corrosion metal material.

6. Inorganic salt industry

Inorganic salts mainly include chlorate and potassium salt. The domestic production of sodium chlorate has developed rapidly in recent two years, with a total production capacity of more than 1 million tons, and about 500000 tons are in the expansion or preliminary work. Titanium chlorate equipment mainly includes electrolytic cells, titanium anodes, reaction generators, evaporators, etc. About 15t titanium materials are required for every 10000t sodium chlorate.

Potash products include potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, potassium nitrate, potassium carbonate, etc. At present, the total capacity of potassium nitrate and potassium carbonate in China is about 600000 tons. Titanium equipment is required for evaporator, preheating tank and cooler in the production of potassium nitrate and potassium carbonate.

7. Other industries

Titanium dioxide and titanium material are used in film concentrator, feeding pipe of calcining kiln, distribution plate of centrifuge, etc.

Urea titanium material is used for urea synthesis tower lining, ammonia stripper, general decomposition tower heater, inlet and outlet valves and springs of methylamine pump, high-pressure mixer, etc.

Dye titanium material is used for coil heat exchanger, absorption tower, purification tower nozzle, fan, water ring vacuum pump, filter, etc.

Titanium nitrate material is used in nitric acid evaporator, nitrogen oxide tail gas preheater, nitric acid steam preheater, gas scrubber, quick cooler, condenser, turbine blower, pump, valve, pipeline, etc
